2020

WELLINGTON, AOTEAROA (NZ)

In early 2020, three weeks before New Zealand was plunged in to a seven week lockdown, I moved to Wellington (NZ) where I quickly acquired a job as a disability support worker and media tutor for Spectrum Care (Aspirations Maranga). Once restrictions were lifted, I set about documenting a fundraising relay hosted by a group of people I supported, a recognized as Maranga. The aim was raise funds to assist a former disability support worker (and friend) who now found herself alone, pregnant and locked down in Australia, following the sudden death of her partner. This resulted in the short documentary Relay for Alana. Filmed, edited & produced for Maranga, by Cooked Media (2020).

Following the Relay, I then set about re-forming and facilitating the Maranga Action Group; a disability rights group determined to speak truth to power. This resulted in three interviews with high-profile politicians in the lead up to the Aotearoa (NZ) 2020 Election. During this period the M.A.G. also interviewed three professional athletes. All interviews were written, conducted and filmed by the M.A.G. with the final videos edited and produced by Cooked Media (2020).

In addition to content created for M.A.G. I also produced a series of promotional videos for Made by Maranga, a program designed to empower young entrepreneurs living with intellectual disability, to design, make and sell their own products. This resulted in market events, successfully run and hosted by Maranga to this day.

2019

In 2019 I worked in Brunswick VIC, for disability support services provider Milparinka A.T.U. as a Level 6 Instructor/creative tutor. Milparinka operates in conjunction with the SEEDs Communal Garden, who share the premises. My first creative project was a short promotional video for our annual Winter Soup Festival. In addition to this project I was also able to complete the dra-medy short Space Titanic. This project engaged more than 30 people living with disability, and was largely filmed and performed by a group of eight non-verbal participants. Between 2019-2021 I edited & produced over 90 videos involving neuro-divergent people living in AUS & NZ, including 33 lockdown tutorials and weekly radio spots on Wellington Access Radio 106.1FM, facilitating the MAG show.

Outside of my work in the disability sector, I also began strategizing my own election campaign for the 2022 Australian Federal Election, producing content for the soon to be released documentary Elect Lincoln. This content was filmed by Jackson Fitzpatrick and edited & produced by Cooked Media (2019).

2018

albany

In 2018 I worked for Southern Edge Arts as a creative artist and tutor. During this time I was able to tutor a group of young performers as they worked to put on their own production of In Our Town (a play by Jack Davis). Through this process they were able to record and star in their own behind the scenes documentary. In Our Town (The Making Of), follows the cast of young actors as they educate themselves about the struggles young indigenous men faced when returning from WWII. This also resulted in several interviews with local indigenous elders and community leaders. Filmed and recorded in conjunction with S.E.A. - edited and produced by Cooked Media (2018).

Furthermore, 2018 saw the release of my second podcast entitled Life as a Drifter, a three part series on sex, drugs & homelessness,

In 2017 I completed a ten-week placement as journalist/content creator for The Morning Mag – ArtBeat – Understory (Facilitated by Peter Barr - ABC Great Southern). 2016

Paranormal Albany

In 2016 I set out to edit, present and produce my first two feature length documentaries. This was a crowd funded initiative, filmed by Gina Carlucci. Paranormal Albany part I & II document my exploration of some of the most notorious paranormal hot-spots in the City of Albany - my home town. As part of this project I was able to interview two mediums, a catholic priest and a local indigenous leader. All in a bid to resolve the unsolved mysteries of my youth.

Prior to 2016

fremantle

Prior to graduating from Murdoch University with a media degree majoring in radio, I fulfilled over ten years presenting and producing in radio, volunteering for ACR 100.9FM, Radio Fremantle 107.9FM, and Radio Murdoch (online media coordinator/presenter). During my second year I wrote and recorded my first six episode podcast series Moral Dilemma, and won 1st place in a radio advert competition for UniBank. I completed my degree with a high distinction for my ten week placement at RTRFM 92.1. At RTR I worked from the field recording and editing 30 interviews (10 packages) for three different programs. 9/10 packages went to air. I was then recommended for Murdoch’s honours program, and shortlisted for a cadetship with the ABC. Beyond my work in radio, I was also able to explore sound and film through a range of units during my degree, acting in, filming, editing and producing Holly and ON AIR.
